Estilo musical originario de Estados Unidos, donde se hizo popular en la década de los años setenta del siglo XX, inicialmente entre la gente de color, y que combina ritmos rápidos del pop con elementos del funk, la música electrónica y arreglos de cuerda, lo que da lugar en la mayoría de los casos a un estilo algo barroco y melódico a la vez.
