El termino K-pop surge por el movimiento de la cultura joven y (K) de Korean (Coreano en ingles); en resumen es la abreviatura de Korean Pop o Pop Coreano. Es un género de música que tuvo sus orígenes especialmente en Corea del Sur ya que prácticamente no hay una industria de música popular en Corea del Norte. Ya que Corea del Norte tiene un estricto régimen de gobierno comunista, por lo que las relaciones con Corea del Sur son muy pocas, así que cuando se habla de cantantes coreanos se da como sobrentendido que se habla de Corea del Sur.
SS501 (pronunciado Double-S 501) es un grupo surcoreano de música pop integrado por cinco chicos bajo la dirección de DSP Entertainment.El nombre del grupo viene a decir varias cosas: La dobe 'S' quiere decir 'SuperStar', el '5' por el número de miembros, el '0' significa eternidad (que siempre estarán juntos ^^) y el '1' viene a decir que los 5 miembros estarán siempre juntos como si fuese uno solo.
El grupo debutó en 2005 con su single "경고" (Warning), y rápidamente sacaron un segundo single, 'Snow Prince'. Pero el grupo ha estado inactivo por un largo periodo de tiempo, debido a problemas médicos. Uno de los miembros, Heo Young Saeng tuvo problemas con su garganta, e incluso tuvo que ser operado. Por lo que la larga recuperación mantuvo al grupo en un descanso algo largo, teniendo que suspender todas sus actividades, hasta mediados de 2006, cuando realizaron su primer concierto en Japón. Después el grupo regresó a Corea para promocionar su nuevo álbum ^^ .cantan un opening del anime BLUE DRAGÓN del famosos AKIRA TORIYAMA y el tema se titula kokoro y esto a incrementado mas su fama tanto en japón como en varios paises.
