La música de un continente como Asia, con una cultura y una historia tan dilatadas en el tiempo y en el espacio, tiene tan gran número de manifestaciones, formas y usos, y ha desarrollado tal variedad de instrumentos y técnicas que no puede estudiarse como una unidad sino como realidades musicales diversas con evidentes relaciones e influencias entre sí.
Boa Kwon (Coreano: 권보아, Kwon Boa, nacida el 5 de noviembre de 1986 en Guri, Corea del Sur), comúnmente estilizada y conocida por su nombre artístico BoA, que es un retroacrónimo para Beat of Angel, es una cantante coreana, activa en Corea del Sur, Japón y los Estados Unidos. Nacida y criada en la provincia de Gyeonggi, Corea del Sur, BoA fue descubierta por caza talentos de SM Entertainment cuando acompañó a su hermano mayor a una búsqueda de talento. En 2000, después de dos años de entrenamiento, ella lanzó ID; Peace B, su álbum debut en Corea, dentro de SM Entertainment. Dos años más tarde, lanzó su primer álbum japonés, Listen to My Heart, bajo el sello Avex. El 14 de octubre de 2008, dentro de SM Entertainment EE.UU., una subdivisión de SM Entertainment, BoA debutó en los Estados Unidos con el single "Eat You Up" y lanzó su primer álbum en idioma Inglés, BoA el 17 de marzo de 2009.
Influenciada en el hip hop y el R&B por cantantes como Nelly y Janet Jackson, muchas de las canciones de BoA caen en esos géneros. A medida que la cantante siente que no "tiene ningún talento para escribir canciones", según sus propias declaraciones, la escritura y la composición de sus canciones son manejados principalmente por su personal, por este motivo, se ha llevado algunas críticas (aunque sólo algunas de sus canciones ha sido auto-escritas, BoA empezó a componer por cuenta propia en su primer álbum japonés Listen to My Heart, en el que ella co-escribió y compuso la canción "Nothing's Gonna Change").
